The Film
Identity explores the extended mind thesis as it relates to our smart phones. Through the story of a theft and an ensuing identity crisis, we come to realize the extent of our exposure.
While the premise of Identity has remained intact since its inception, the final film was as a much a product of the COVID pandemic as any fixed creative vision. The footage used was test footage for a more complex narrative. The manner in which the story is told, while consistent with the other films in the series, was re-imagined by a desire to finish the film “from my desk.” The outcome was a pleasant surprise and interesting creative exercise.
The Festivals
Identity premiered at the RiverRun International Film Festival on May 6th and screened at a variety of other festivals in 2021.
The Team
While there were number of frequent collaborators in the early stages of development (thanks Pat and Andy), the COVID pandemic resulted in what was almost exclusively a solo filmmaking process.
Thanks to Tom at Undertone Music for some audio clean-up and Ezra Gold for doing what he could to turn some poorly lit test footage into something presentable.
Also a special thanks to Ben Cooper (Radical Face) for offering up his Missing Film album royalty free under Creative Commons. Waltzing in the Ashes became a cornerstone of the edit and pacing of the film, and is ultimately as responsible for the overall feeling one comes away with as anything you see on the screen or hear in the narration.
